Text Message Opt-In
GPS for Life sends text messages only to people who ask for them, and a student asks by texting us first. This is the screen where she does it, exactly as it appears inside her account.
How a student opts in
Consent is the student’s own outbound text message. She cannot be signed up by anyone else, and nothing is sent to a number until she has texted it to us herself.
- She signs in to her own GPS for Life account and opens Yours. This is the only place a phone number can be added.
- She enters her mobile number and presses Connect my phone.
- The screen shows her a six-character code and asks her to text it to (877) 600-1448. The code is shown on screen only — we do not send it to her.
- She texts that code to us from her own phone. That message is the opt-in.
- Back in her account she presses Yes, that’s my phone. Until she does, we answer nothing.
The screen, and what it tells her
Working, not a picture — enter any number to see what a student sees. It creates no account and sends no message.
Text your Twin
Text one number from your own phone and ask your Twin a question. No app, no account.
Text to (877) 600-1448 from the phone ending .
The code works once, for 15 minutes.
After you text it, come back here and press “Yes, that’s my phone”. Nothing is answered by text until you do.
A demonstration of the real screen. No account is created and no message is sent.
What you are agreeing to
What you’ll receive: replies to questions you text us — your deadlines, what your Twin has noticed, what a college costs your family, the scholarships you can act on, and how to start the FAFSA. We reply only to a message you send. We never text you first, and we do not send marketing messages.
Message frequency varies, because it depends on how often you text us.
Message and data rates may apply, according to your mobile plan.
Reply HELP for help or STOP to cancel at any time. STOP ends it immediately; to start again, turn it back on in your account.
Consent is not a condition of using GPS for Life. Everything the texts answer is on the website too.
See our Terms and Privacy Policy. We do not sell or share your mobile number or your consent with anyone for marketing.
Students under 18: by connecting your phone you confirm a parent or guardian has agreed to you receiving these messages. A linked parent can see that your phone is connected, and can withdraw it — they never see your number or your messages.
Opting out
Reply STOP to any message. You’ll receive one confirmation text and no further messages, and the phone is disconnected from the account. To use it again, connect the phone from your account — the same screen above. We do not turn it back on from a text message, because a text alone cannot prove it is you.
